Anger Management

Feeling angry is a natural response to certain life experiences. It’s a basic emotion, occurring at times when we come under attack, feel deceived, insulted or frustrated.

Anger helps to relieve built-up energy and tension. While we have learnt that expressing anger can be a healthy way of managing the emotion, when excessive, it can become a problem. Excessive anger may even be a symptom of more complex issues. It can be a symptom of, and contribute to, certain mental health problems and sometimes make existing problems worse.

Anger is a normal, healthy emotion. We have the power to understand it and manage it and it can be easy to manage with the right tools and insight. Anger becomes unhealthy when it reaches an extreme end such as rage. It becomes difficult to control and even destructive. Explosive anger can affect your relationships, work, and state of mind.

At Zen Life Counselling we can help you understand what you are trying to communicate and how you want to say it so that you don’t hurt others or yourself. Often times, anger can be a cover-up for what we are really feeling, such as deep hurt or shame. Anger can also be a symptom of underlying mental health problems, such as depression, trauma, or chronic stress. Sometimes, expressing feelings of frustration and anger is not encouraged. That’s why anger management and learning how to express these feelings is important. The goal is not to suppress it. We can help you explore what is underneath your anger and help you express it appropriately so that you can have better relationships, achieve your goals, and lead a more satisfying and healthy life.
